The bi-disciplinary program "Politics and Socio-Political History in Russia and Eastern Europe" is shared by the Department of Political Science (Faculty of Social Sciences) and the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies (Faculty of Humanities).
From the beginning of the 18th century Russia was a political and military power. Even after the disintegration of the USSR, Russia continues to play a major role in world politics. Its importance increased even more with the resumption of the Cold War and the strengthening of Russia in the Middle East.
Russian language and political culture are still used by many countries that were formed with the dissolution of the USSR or were members of the Warsaw Pact. Many of these countries today are experiencing integration into international economics and politics, especially after some of them joined the European Union, and following the shaping of Europe's new face in the twenty - first century.
Political decisions and moves cannot be understood without an understanding of contemporary reality, cultural values and historical heritage behind them. On an international scale, too, important and diverse phenomena of modern politics have been born or developed in Russia's political culture, including important radical movements that include communism and anarchism, phenomena such as political terrorism and totalitarian regimes. Political Zionism also has its roots in Russia and Eastern Europe.
For this reason we established the dual-disciplinary curriculum for Politics, History and Political Thought in Russia and Eastern Europe which will provide students with theoretical knowledge in political science along with a deep knowledge of the region and its culture. As part of this program, we will also offer students a dedicated program consisting of introductory courses, thematic elective courses and seminars.
